Dear Readers,

This is no ordinary travel blog, nor even another review site like TripAdvisor! This is a one-of-a-kind "insider guide" where you can find out what a country is really like, before you visit. Whilst most travel blogs and guides present a cozy image of friendly locals, balmy beaches and relaxed dining, the reality is often very different and based more on the local "culture" than anything else.

I have traveled and lived all over the world, 95 countries so far, and gained many valuable insights. I also studied psychology/anthropology for many years and combine that with my love of photography to capture the true "essence" of each destination. My Olympus OMD EM5 camera adds the images to exciting and provocative essays about people across the world.

You will notice that a very important aspect of this website is the discussion and general reader interaction. Your opinions and experiences are invaluable to build this into a large and invaluable directory of information about each place. Enjoy, contribute and suggest new destinations - this site is nothing without you!

This is certainly not really a city and I am not really sure what it is, but it is a very surreal experience so maybe I’ll stick to the word “experience”! Having said that, an experience usually has a positive overtone but in the case of Angeles City there is precious little good to be said about it so maybe I’ll settle for ‘The Angeles Nightmare’!

This is a tale of two interesting conversations with friends that set me thinking about cultural differences and I think you might find amusing! The first took place a few days ago with a friend who works with staff across Asia in the call centre business. We were discussing the difficulty of hiring good staff here. He then recounted the story of a training session they held recently in Bangkok with attendees from other Asian countries. As an ‘ice-breaker’, the groups (split by their nationality still at this stage) were asked to work through a simple problem though little did he know the debate it would cause…

Thailand – Phuket, Thailand – Phuket is not in Thailand!…

So another trip to Phuket was planned to see what has changed over the last year or so and it’s a good chance to give you the alternative guide to the place… First off, it’s a really long drive from Bangkok! Even in my supercharged rocket ship it took around 7 hours which I am told is very quick so heaven forbid the time for a normal paced journey… Better to fly I think.
